The Couples
Intensive Retreat

Your relationship is precious and so is your time. This intensive format of couples therapy is great for those looking to jump-start their connection with 3-months of therapy in 3-days.

Healing doesn’t take time, it takes focus.

People say “time heals all wounds.” We disagree. You could spend all the time you have in the world, but if the process between you never changes, then the pain will never heal. You don’t need to waste more time, you need space to focus and experience healing.

In our couples intensive, we bring hard science and all of our clinical energy to your relationship, so both partners can feel seen, heard, and get success in the tough places. We won’t hold anything back (except maybe our tears as the tenderness grows! Gets us everytime…)

Does any of this sound familiar?

“You don’t listen. No matter how hard I try, I can never get through to you.”

“All I hear is what I am doing wrong.

“I never get it right. It’s never enough for you.”

“It’s all on me. I have to take care of everything myself.”

“You’re not on my team.”

“I don’t feel like I matter, or that you care.”

"It’s like I’m damned if I do, and damned if I don’t.”

“You never initiate sex. It is always up to me.”

“It’s feels like we’re roommates.”

If this sounds like your relationship, you are not alone.

Getting to the heart, efficiently.

Our intensive is designed to help you get to the heart of disconnection efficiently and restore your relationship with expert help along the way.

Length. 3 days (typically Wednesday - Friday).

Approach. We begin where repair has failed to bring clarity to stuck places. As the pain settles, we’ll go deeper to what has fueled the blocks between you.

Outcome. While results vary depending on the couple (not all wounds heal at the same rate, and different couples have different needs) by Day 3 our couples often describe feeling:

Relieved | Comforted | Excited | Hopeful

a couple holding hands
  • "wonderful & extremely helpful"

“It was a wonderful and extremely helpful experience. Well worth the expense, the time, and the travel…slowing down and focusing on the emotion to get to the deeper needs/emotions was helpful.”

  • "blessed to have had these sessions"

“We are blessed to have had these sessions and are very excited to enjoy each other more and more, and being more vulnerable.”

  • "a significant difference in a short time"

“I feel like our work made a significant difference in a short timeframe, I liked how Dr. Alex would slow it down and also talk about where she could feel it in her body, made me feel like she had empathy. I have already recommended Sacred Ground to a close friend who is having difficulty connecting with her husband.”

Is it right for you?

Let’s compare the intensive to weekly marriage therapy. For many couples, weekly is a great place to start because the steady cadence helps build momentum and make meaningful changes gradually so the results are seen as steady, reliable, and lasting.

But for some couples the slow, gradual pace of traditional therapy can feel challenging because it’s like trying to fill a bucket drip by drip, while a hole at the bottom keeps draining all the water. It’s like 2 steps forward and 5 steps back.

This is where the intensive helps! There is no time wasted. We jump in and stay focused from start to finish, which allows us to build up traction faster so you can see and feel your “bucket” filling.

The intensive is especially helpful
for the following couples:

Have Stalled in Couples Therapy.

Sometimes traction stalls, and it’s hard to know what’s blocking our progress. The intensive gives you a chance to try something new with no time wasted!

Highly motivated.

If you’re motivated and ready to feel better together, the intensive can leverage your motivation to get traction, so you start feeling better sooner.

Can’t commit to weekly sessions.

If life is busy and it’s hard to find a time that works consistently, the intensive format can free up space to focus and get the relationship back on track.

In Crisis.

The intensive sessions are especially effective for couples in crisis that have held a lot of pain together. Our goal is to get you relief ASAP.

Intensive’s are not recommended when there is:

  • Intimate partner violence or abuse (for more information, click here).

  • Active, denied addiction(s).

  • Ongoing affair(s).

  • Conflicting Goals (One of you wants to make it work, the other does not)

As with any psychotherapy, results are not guaranteed.

When is the couple intensive not recommended?
