Depression is so much more than just feeling “down” or “blue” for a few days - it can feel layered, confusing, and dark. For some, maybe it started small but overtime you began to lose interest in life - even the activities or relationships you love. For others, depression maybe makes you look angry and irritable, when on the inside you feel restless, empty, or trapped.

Living with depression can feel lonely, especially when it’s hard to make sense of the pain. The motivation and energy begin to dwindle, and then more than ever you feel stuck. Depression treatment can help, because it offers a map through so not only do you feel better, but also grow confidence in how you can maintain and expand your emotional balance long term.

Depression affects over 18 million adults (one in ten) every year.

Depression can take many forms. Most of us associate it with feeling sad, but it’s often so much more than that. You may feel more numb or experience a dark mood, a lack of interest in things, fatigue or low energy, difficulty concentrating, changes in eating or sleeping, and intense feelings like anger, guilt, or worthlessness.

You may also experience thoughts of suicide or death, which might range from simply thinking about it to creating a plan.*

Our goal in treating depression is to help you understand these thoughts and feelings, in a way where you not only have a roadmap to greater emotional balance, but also support in moving through the pain so you can experience long-term relief at your core.

Depression is not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of pain, which we can work on together.

Emotions are information - they report on changes that happen internally and in your environment so you can face and navigate pivotal moments in life with success and balance.

When we’re in the grips of depression, this is not a sign of weakness, it’s a sign that your body is trying to communicate again, and that it’s time to slow down to move with and through these feelings.

Depression therapy help, because when we can see our emotions as a resource and guide rather than a liability, we develop a more secure sense of who we are and who we can rely on, with greater clarity and confidence on how to get to the heart of our pain efficiently, to promote healthier and fulfilling changes that last.

If you're struggling with depression, we're here to help. We use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) because we truly believe you have the power to heal. Together, we'll explore what depression looks like for you, how you handle your emotions, and who's there for you. This will help us create more balance and bring back feelings of curiosity, compassion, and vulnerability – leading to real, lasting change.

With EFT, you can expect to:

  1. Get clear on your depression patterns.

  2. Dive into the feelings behind your distress.

  3. Find more self-compassion and less self-criticism.

  4. Feel more alive and connected.

  5. Regain emotional balance and flexibility.

  6. Build resilience and rediscover joy.

You May Have Some Questions About Treating Depression…

  • While every client is different, and all pain heals at a different rate, we find that many of our clients progress in 18-24 sessions.

At Sacred Ground, we integrate measurement based care into treatment so you can see your results in real time. We also offer treatment reviews at regularly scheduled intervals so you and your provider can more deeply collaborate on your goals, progress, and satisfaction, and review the frequency and duration of treatment.

  • Absolutely! Medication can be helpful in the treatment of depression, and we would be happy to support you in connecting with a provider if this option interests you.

We equate medication to using a cast when healing a bone. While we believe the body has an innate ability to heal, we also understand how medication can support the process by preventing or decreasing further pain while you do the heavy lifting in therapy.

  • You are not alone. In fact, most of the research on depression and anxiety is that they come hand-in-hand, which is why we use an evidence based approach proven to help our clients manage strong emotions regardless of diagnosis, so you do not need to seek multiple therapies over time but can focus and get success managing emotional challenges with confidence.
